GENERAL EVENT LOGISTICS

When is the Project Open Hand/SF Giants Plate to Plate 5K Run/Walk?
Plate to Plate will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2009. Warm up exercises will begin at 8:30 a.m. Race day registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. for those not previously registered.

Where will Plate to Plate take place?
The route for Plate to Plate will begin and end on Terry Francois Street across McCovey Cove from AT&T Park (across the Lefty O'Doul Bridge on Third Street). The route will go along the Embarcadero and each participant will have the opportunity to run/walk over Giants HOME PLATE at AT&T Park as they make their way towards the finish line. Click here for the route map. All participants will need a bib number in order to be allowed into AT&T Park to cross home plate.

How long is Plate to Plate?
Plate to Plate is a 5K (3.1 miles) Run/Walk and should be completed by most runners and walkers in under an hour. The 5K course is USATF-certified (certification number CA07011TK).

What is the schedule of events for the day of Plate to Plate?
1:05 p.m. – Giants vs. Rockies baseball game

Will parking be available?
Limited parking near the start/finish area will be available at $30.00 for the day. We encourage the use of mass transit. Also there will be bicycle parking available on site as well. Click here for more information on parking and transit.

Will refreshments be available?
Water and a variety of snacks will be provided free of charge at the venue and at a designated checkpoint along the route of Plate to Plate. The post race festival will also offer a variety of food and beverage items – both complimentary as well as to be purchased.

What is the festival?
The festival will begin shortly after the start of Plate to Plate and will end right before the start of the Giants vs. Rockies baseball game. There will be food, beverages, entertainment and lots of fun and informational booths to be visited at the festival. Something for everyone!

When will I receive my race number bib?
All race number bibs will be mailed to the participants in mid August. If you register after August 26, plan to pick up your bib the day of the event starting at 7 a.m.

Are there age division awards?
Age division awards will be presented three deep for men and women:
Under 12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 & up
Age division winners will receive a Plate to Plate certificate and medal.

Are strollers and dogs permitted?
Strollers are permitted in the 5K; however we request that you line up behind the runners at the starting line. Unfortunately, dogs or any animals are not permitted on the course due to safety reasons. However, dogs are welcome at the festival following the race.

Will there be an event photographer to capture me running across home plate?
Due to the large number of participants, you will not be able to stop at home plate to take your own personal photos. However, we will have professional photographers, who will be taking pictures of walkers/runners as they cross home plate. You may purchase these photographs after the event. GETTING TICKETS FOR THE GIANTS GAME

When will I receive my ticket for the Giants game?
Tickets will be distributed at the post-race festival. We do not mail baseball tickets in advance under any circumstances.

ABOUT TEAMS, TEAM REGISTRATION, AND OTHER TEAM LOGISTICS

What is a team?
A team is any group of friends, family, coworkers, fellow students or community organization members who pre-register, raise money and run/walk together on the day of Plate to Plate. Teams can range in size from 2 to more than 100 people. Any team that registers 20 or more runner/walkers by August 19, 2009 will qualify for a Team Bench (a meeting place specific to your team). How do I register my team and set up my Plate to Plate team web page?
Setting up your Plate to Plate team web page is easy! Click here to register and choose "Start a team" (until August 19, 2009). Once you register, you can customize your team web page, send out team recruitment e-mails, set team goals, and talk with other Team Coaches on the bulletin board. As the days go by, you can monitor the success of your team by checking fundraising statistics and obtaining donation and team recruitment reports.

How do Team Members register?
Click here to register and choose "Join a team" (until August 19, 2009).

If someone registered for Plate to Plate as an individual, can they still join our team?
Before August 19, 2009, pre-registered runner/walkers can still be part of your team. Call the Plate to Plate hotline at (415) 447-2316 and provide the runner/walker’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address, if available. Ask to have them added to your team.

How can I coordinate a meeting place for my team at the event?
If your team is larger than 20 persons by August 19, 2009, your team will qualify for a designated Team Bench where you can meet prior to the beginning of the 5K run/walk. If your team is smaller than 20 persons, you will want to communicate among your team members to decide on a meeting place. You can refer to the map of the location by clicking here.

How does a Team sit together at the Giants Game?
Tickets for all Team members who register by August 19, 2009 will be bundled for pick up by Team Coaches at the post-race festival on event day starting at 9:30 a.m. Team Coaches will need to show photo ID.

ABOUT FUNDRAISING

Are there any incentive awards for raising money?
- If you raise at least $125 you will receive a commemorative Plate to Plate/Giants pin
- If you raise at least $250 you will receive an official event mug
- If you raise at least $500 you will receive an official commemorative event baseball
- If you raise at least $1,000 you will receive an event sports tote bag plus a Giants player autograph on your commemorative event baseball
- All incentive awards are cumulative – raise $1,000 or more to receive all the above awards

What does the highest individual fundraiser receive?
The highest individual fundraiser receives the following:
- A Giants field visit and stadium tour for you + three guests (includes four game tickets; tour and tickets for future game date TBD by Giants)
- Acknowledgement from the pitcher’s mound during a pre-game ceremony on August 30
The highest fundraising team will receive a unique Giants memorabilia item – The autographed Home Plate from the August 30 Giants game!

What is the deadline to hand in funds for fundraiser awards?
The deadline to hand in funds for fundraiser awards is September 30, 2009. Highest individual fundraiser awards will be identified based on donations received by 9:00 a.m. race day.

Does everyone have to fundraise in order to participate?
Fundraising for Project Open Hand is not a requirement of registering for Plate to Plate. We strongly encourage participants to fundraise for the following reasons:
- To qualify for great Giants baseball memorabilia awards
- To help your team qualify for top team honors and walk away with a unique Giants memorabilia item – The autographed Home Plate from the August 30 Giants game!
- To raise money for a very worthwhile community non-profit organization

VOLUNTEERING

How can I volunteer for the event? We need lots of people to support this event in the days and weeks leading up to the race as well as the day of the event. Please signup through the volunteer page on the website or email info@platetoplate.org or call (415) 447-2316.
